The House

The house is divided into two sections, one is the original house with two bedrooms (two beds in each room), living room and a modern kitchen; the other is an annex with four beds and its own bathroom and toilet. Two families can thus easily stay in the house at the same time. The house is basic but pleasant, surrounded by a big, terraced olive garden with a view over the Bargemon valley. Just outside the house there is a big pool. Thyme and rosemary grow everywhere - use them in your food!
These pictures show the house and its surroundings (click for larger pictures):

Bargemon

Bargemon is an ancient village built on the hill side, with remains of a town wall and town gates from the 10th century, and a view over the beautiful Bargemon valley and the old de Villeneuve palace.

The name Bargemon is believed to be of Celtic origin. Just like the Norsemen, the Celts worshipped certain trees and sources, and Bargemon indeed has an old source - the water there is so good that people come all the way from Nice to fill their bottles! Also the regular faucet water is good in Bargemon. It takes about 15 - 20 minutes to walk to the village, where there are grocery stores, bakeries, pharmacy, as well as several restaurants and caf&ecaute;s.

For those who are into yoga, we can recommend the yoga center on route de Seillans, not far from our house.

Surroundings

In the neighbouring villages Claviers and Seillans there are more excellent restaurants. In Callas there is a "Moulin", an (olive) oil mill where olive oil and other Provencal specialities are sold, and in the next village, Figuanieres, there is wine production with degustation.
On Saturday mornings there is a market in Fayence, and on Thursday mornings a smaller market in Bargemon itself. Above Bargemon is the mountain Le Col du Bel Homme, a different and very dramatic landscape. If you go inland from there, you come to the magnificent village of Bargème, and a bit further away there is Castellane, the "gate" to the gorges du Verdon, a fantastic canyon landscape where you can go rafting, climbing or simply enjoy the wild beauty.
In the other direction, south of Bargemon, you find yet another world, the Mediterranean, and Côte d'Azur, about 45 min. away. There are many things to see and experience there, from the chocolateries in Roquebrune, the art museums in Antibes, Cannes and Vence, to the Roman ruins in Fréjus or the old Grimaldi castle in Grimaud. There are things to do and see in the whole area in and around Bargemon, including tennis and golf. Do not forget the perfume factories in Grasse, the Abbaye de Thoronet beyond Draguignan, the caves in St Cézaire, or Marineland near Antibes.
